Function
The multi-user in Halocline allows you to overcome distances with VR and to realize virtual collaboration in industrial engineering.
In order to be able to use the multi-user function in Halocline, we will introduce you to the usage requirements and go into detail about data transfer in this article. You can also submit this article to your IT department for backup.
Introduction
Multi-User in Halocline
Multi-User in Halocline enables improved communication between the users who are involved in the planning process. Users can enter the virtual shopfloor together, experience it spatially and discuss change requests and ideas directly on the digital twin of the production floor. This promotes a shared understanding of the layout and processes.
Technical requirements
The Halocline multi-user server is hosted in Microsoft Azure, Germany West Central. In order to establish a connection between the VR computer and this server, port 4296 (Outbound) TCP & UDP must be opened for parcel.halocline.io. Your IT can do this for you.
Since the multi-user feature is currently still in beta, it is also important that you have a beta license and have selected the beta settings in Halocline. If the beta settings are active, the multi-user button is displayed in the Halocline start screen.
Data transfer
For a smooth communication in the virtual world, it is necessary to exchange data between the individual servers and to make it available for the participants of the meeting in advance. Any data transfer that takes place via the Halocline server is encrypted.
Movement data
Each participant is represented in the virtual world by an avatar. In order to be able to present this representation to other participants, the position data of the hands, the head, the drawing notes and the grasped objects are transmitted via the Halocline server. In this way, the other participants can see, for example, when colleagues point to objects or switch to a work area.
Audio data
Each participant has the possibility to transmit his or her own voice to the other participants via the Halocline server. In this way real conversations are possible. In addition, each participant can individually decide to mute his microphone or not to allow audio transmission.
Shopfloor data
All environment elements (CAD models, hall layouts, etc.) are stored locally by the individual users and are not transferred via the server. In order to access the same data during the meeting, the participants must export it in advance and exchange it via company-specific channels.
